The family ofHockey Club Lugano mourns with sadness Carlo Viglezio, known by everyone as 'Cuccio', who passed away at the age of 90.
A good, generous 'grouch' with his heart in his hand, in love with his Lugano.
This is how we remember him on the painful day of his farewell.
Born in 1931, 'Cuccio' spanned virtually the entire history of the HCL, a true champion of loyalty.
The annals already mention him as a committee member in the 1947/1948 season.
Viglezio was one of the pioneering leaders who gave the most to the colors bianconeri. A player in the late 1940s, he was a very active member of what was then called the Technical Committee from 1955 to 1969.
His flair, his tenacity and his power of persuasion were decisive in bringing the likes of Walter and Sepp Imhof, 'Papi' Friedrich and Roland Bernasconi to Lugano. The most beautiful triumph experienced as a manager was probably the historical promotion to the B series achieved at Rapperswil on the 29th of February 1964.
As he liked to remind his friends, 'Cuccio' was also instrumental in the search for a new club president in the late 1970s, at a delicate juncture in the history ofHockey Club Lugano. He carried out this mission brilliantly, convincing Geo Mantegazza to take over the club's reins. And the arrival of the President marked the real beginning of the Great Lugano.
"Cuccio" was close to his Lugano to the last, even after his retirement from official positions: member of the Board of Directors from 1991 to 2001, founding member and well-deserving member of the Golden Wings Club, sponsor magnanimous, collector of memorabilia bianconeri in his private cellar at home.
The family ofHockey Club Lugano remembers him with infinite affection, with his temperament and combative character. But above all with his human warmth and his good smile.
Our sincerest condolences go out to the family.
